The eastern part of Astarac, the region of Masseube is made of the two middle valleys of the Gers and Arrats rivers coming from the plateau of Lannemezan from where they rise : these axes were the easiest roads for Roman penetration in Aquitanian lands as proved by toponymy (Latin villae in -anum : Seissan, Ornézan, Chélan, Orbessan, ...). Like the remainder of Astarac, this area was part of the city of the Auscitani whose capital was Elimberri (modern Auch, one can detect the ancient Basque Iriberri=new town). Basque placenames can still be found in this area : Aussos, Sarcos, Simorre, Garros, ...

Taille réelle / Full Scale- Analyse anthropologique sommaire / Brief anthropological analysis :
- Type 1 : Complexion intermédiaire (cheveux de foncés à blonds, yeux parfois clairs, ...), leptomorphique, nez convexe et long plutôt parallèle à la face, yeux rapprochés, oreilles décollées, menton en pointe, mâchoires larges
~ Atlanto-Mediterranéen dinarisé
Intermediate complexion (from dark to blonde hair, frequent light eyes, ...), leptomorphic, convex and long nose rather parallel to the face, close-set eyes, lop ears, pointy chin, large jaw
~ Dinaricized Atlanto-Mediterranean

C'est le type gascon par excellence, assez dominant dans cet échantillon. On rencontre également des individus plus généralement "méditerranéens".
This is the main Gascon type, quite prevailing in this sample. More classical "Med-looking" individuals are found as well.

- Type 2 : Complexion foncée (cheveux noirs, ...), brachymorphique, tête large, petit nez droit, yeux rapprochés parfois "pseudo-mongoloïdes", mâchoires larges
~ Alpino-Méditerranéen
Dark complexion (black hair, ...), brachymorphic, large face, little and straight nose, close-set eyes, little "pseudo-mongoloid" eyelids, large jaw
~ Alpino-Mediterranean

Il s'agit d'un type essentiellement féminin. Une variante de ce type semble assez localisée : complexion plus claire, dinaromorphisme, mâchoire carrée, ...
This is mainly a female type. A more localized variant can be encountered : a lighter complexion, dinaromorphism, square-shaped jaws, ...

- Morphotypes finaux / Final morphotypes :
Their names are Patxi and Mirentxu. All them without almost exception, right? :D
ReplyDeleteBI=13 very clear. That makes them pretty high, almost like Bearnais level (always visual and subjective), which I guesstimated in some 70% of Basque affinity after correction. In the same line as Angouleme and clearly above the Gascon average.
