The area around Mirande constitutes the western part of Astarac, centred around the middle valleys of the two rivers named "Baïse". Like the remainder of Astarac and Armagnac, the region was inhabited by the Aquitanian Ausci, the most powerful tribe in ancient Aquitania.

De façon assez peu surprenante, la majorité des individus relèvent du type gascon classique identifié depuis longtemps dans la littérature anthropologique. Certains individus dérivent un peu de ce canevas, notamment en étant plus robuste.
Unsurprisingly enough, most people belong to the well-identified Gascon type. Some individuals do deviate from this canvas by showing more robust features.

Il s'agit là d'un type assez majoritairement féminin dont la présence est réelle en Gascogne : mon arrière-arrière-grand-mère d'extraction béarnaise était le clone de ces individus.
This is a mostly-female type the presence of which is real in Gascony : my great-great-grandmother of Béarnaise heritage was the clone of these female individuals.

The Alpino-Med type you mention is very interesting because it approaches a type you already found in Auvergne and that reminded me of Quentin Tarantino (but also the occasional English-surnamed guy): strong jaw, broad face and nose... possibly the closest I can imagine to Cro-Magnon 1 (at least on first evaluation, correct me if you think otherwise).

En parlant du Tarantino de Cro-Magnon... Quand on me confond avec quelqu'un d'autre, c'est toujours avec certitude. Surtout dans les vallées de la Truyère, du Lot et de la Garonne.

Je suis toujours stupéfait quand je vois les profils gascons. Je pense toujours à l'introduction des 3 Mousquetaires : "Visage long et brun ; la pommette des joues saillante, signe d’astuce ; les muscles maxillaires énormément développés, indice infaillible auquel on reconnaît le Gascon, même sans béret, et notre jeune homme portait un béret orné d’une espèce de plume ; l’œil ouvert et intelligent ; le nez crochu, mais finement dessiné ; trop grand pour un adolescent, trop petit pour un homme fait"
