The high valley of the Aude river, before being conquered by the Volcae Tectosages, a Celtic nation, used to be inhabited by populations linked to Iberians, as proved by ancient epigraphy.

- Echantillon représentatif / Sample :
Taille réelle / Full Scale- Analyse anthropologique sommaire / Brief anthropological analysis :
- Type 1 : Complexion intermédiaire, leptomorphique, traits bouffis, yeux rapprochés, long nez convexe et implanté haut, mâchoires larges, menton pointu
~ (Atlanto-)Méditerranéen dinarisé
Intermediate complexion, leptomorphic, puffy features, close-set eyes, long and high-rooted convex nose, large jaw, pointy chin
~ Dinaricized (Atlanto-)Mediterranean

I am more and more skeptical about the way I have been managing my classifications for years. All in all, I know only identify leptomorphic and brachymorphic types which exhibit local secondary traits which appear to be ethnic. In this case, people show abundant light eyes (grey, green, ...), puffy traits which are quite typical, a specific nose structure, ... Those people clearly look East-Pyrenean.
- Type 2 : Complexion intermédiaire (cheveux clairs, yeux clairs, ...), brachymorphique, tête large, yeux éloignés, mâchoires larges, nez petit et large
~ Alpinoïde
Intermediate complexion (light hair, light eyes, ...), brachymorphic, wide face, wide-set eyes, large jaw, little and broad nose
~ Alpinoid

Obviously enough, reduced Alpinoid types can be found in the area just like in the remainder of Europe. Local features might probably be identified though they appear to be more obvious in the following series which is intermediate between the two ideal types already identified, more particularly because of nose shape.

- Morphotypes finaux / Final morphotypes :

I'd identify some 25% (c. 8 individuals) as Basque-looking, what is somewhat surprisingly many. However they are all in Mediterraneo-Alpinoid tendency, rather than in the Atlantic one. Sometimes they could be "Basque" or "British" equally and at least one case (B1) is very Irish- or British-looking.
ReplyDeleteMy Basque-like individuals are: A1, A8, B3, B5, B7, C2 (could be "Basque" or could be Jack Nicholson's lost brother), D1 and D3. Some of the others could also fit but are more ambiguous or blurry.
There's also a notable group of Dinaric (A3, B6, C3, C8) and Armenoid (C4, C5 and C7) phenotypes, as well as some other generic Mediterranoid (A4 looks Mexican-like to me but some other Occitans sometimes look also vaguely Mestizo, not sure why, more likely to be Med influences than American IMO).
Then a lot of people just looks "Nordic" (senso molto lato: all type of phenotypes of NW Europe): A2, A5, B1, B2, D7 and D8. D4, D5 and D6 are like North Italian "Nordics", although the phenotypes may also be found elsewhere (D6 for example is identical to Spanish TV news anchor Ana Blanco (who is also very similar to my mother when young and who is Basque birth and uprising, unsure about her ancestry - my mother is half Italian half Iberian and almost just accidentally Basque by matrilineage so it's most likely NOT a Basque look but an Italo-Iberian one).
As said some individuals are between "Basque" and "Nordic" looks (Atlantid, I guess).
There are no neatly Iberian phenotypes I can identify which are not Basque-like.
