Aurignac is known for the archeological excavations by Edouard Lartet in the 19th century which led to the definition of Aurignacian (45.000-35.000 BC). The area of Aurignac belonged to Comminges, heir to the Aquitanian civitas of the Convenae.

Il est inutile de multiplier les exemples : la plupart des individus de l'échantillon relèvent de ce type anthropologique déjà identifié ailleurs en Gascogne.
Showing endless examples would be useless : most people in the sample fall in that well-identified anthropological category already detected elsewhere in Gascony.
- Type 2 : Complexion foncée (cheveux noirs, ...), brachymorphique, tête large, petit nez droit, yeux éloignés parfois "pseudo-mongoloïdes", mâchoires larges
~ Alpino-Méditerranéen
Dark complexion (black hair, ...), brachymorphic, large face, little and straight nose, distant-set eyes, little "pseudo-mongoloid" eyelids, large jaw
